HOGNOSE CARE

They require similar care to most other colubrids, like corn snakes and rat snakes. They require at least 85 degree heat gradient in the cage, and a small water bowl. Hide boxes are necessary since they like to burrow in their substrate. Shredded aspen or pine works best. I only feed frozen thawed rodents, they will also take live. Most hognose will eat unscented rodents. Toad scenting is only required for finicky snakes, or in special situations, such as taking a snake out of hibernation, scenting is used as an appetite stimulant to get the adults to start eating. Periodic spot cleaning of the cage is done regularly, with a complete changing out of the cage substrate done ever couple of weeks.
