2012 breeding season

E-mail Print PDF

2012 breeding season is under way, most of my adult females have done their first shed, and i am witnessing tail locks by the males. The next shed will be the pre lay shed, followed by eggs 5 to 7 days later.

My 2012 breeding season is about to kick off, starting at the beginning of March, everyone comes out of hibernation.

World's smallest western hognose?

E-mail Print PDF

I hatched a western hognose that weighs barely 2 grams. What i believe happened to him was he was a twin egg, and the twin died early on. The egg had started to mold, but i occasionally wiped the mold from it and it went full term and hatched.

Shipping in cold weather

E-mail Print PDF

Its that time of year again. As of December, i stop shipping until March due to temperature extremes.  When night time lows start hitting below 40 degrees, it is unsafe and unwise to ship reptiles, with some exceptions. Adult colubrids that are in hibernation can handle extreme lows, i haven't had any issues shipping them in the past, but its not often i'm selling an adult.  Western hognose can handle some cold temps, but its easier just to suspend sales for a couple of months, and resume shipping when its warmer. The added bonus is the animal can grow for 3 months, and in the spring i can offer larger and well started offspring for sale.
